since there are a bunch of people starting out their journeys here on dreamwidth, i thought i'd take a moment to share a few places that can help you make your journal, well, yours! there are some really good dreamwidth, basic html, and css primers out there so i'm not going to attempt to cover any of that here, just sharing a few communities with layouts and icons.

please don't take this to mean that this is something you need to do, you can absolutely pick a premade style and use it as is and upload an icon that you like and call it a day, or play around some with themes/layouts from the many really nice ones that exists in the journal styles tab, but there are also some really cool custom ones that are pretty easy to install! so without further ado:

i'm sure there are many more good places to get layouts or icons, but here on dreamwidth itself i personally really like yuripop - by the lovely luckyzukky - for mostly girl group kpop icons and stock image icons, and insomniatic has a diverse option of fandoms and stock image icons in various themes. any 100x100 icons will do the trick though, i know i found some on tumblr at least in the past?

eta: melo luckyzukky has just let me know that she has an icon request post open over at yuripop! read more about it there, but that can be a fun way to get some icons (she made my wonderful jungwon gif icons in a diff post earlier this year!)

i also know there used to be combability between (some?) old livejournal themes and dreamwidth, but i'm not sure if there has been any changes to the codes between the sites over the years that make it less than ideal to try, and maybe it's better to start small here lol. and many layout creators, even those with their own comms for that, tend to crosspost to the first community linked!

i'm currently trying out a new-to-me layout and i'm not sure if the extreme minimalism is something i'm gonna stay with or if i'll try something else soonish, or even return to my previous theme that i really liked.. as you can tell, i'm not able to make layouts myself lmao - i do make icons for myself on occasion though! used to make most of mine even, just resizing pics and maybe some light editing.. but sometimes it's nice to get some icons that are ready to use and the correct size already lol

a while back me and cora mocksun talked on twitter about daemon aus, and then after an alterspring ask where we talked again abt the concept i semi-jokingly suggested we do “daemon au december” (for the alliteration). but neither of us wanted to wait that long, so then i prompted “daemon au august” for more alliteration lmao, and now we're here. the goal was to just. finish something, anything, with daemons.

so a couple of weeks ago sakurazaka46 managed to absolutely yuribait me in the best of ways, and with one of my visual 2pick ships of all time, ten/karin! for shallow reasons and vague fondness of karin based on nothing substantial i'm so glad they've been getting pushed these last idk how many months and that it resulted in a proper center for a main single, even if wcenter, for karin?

but on top of that the lyrics are insane and included in the mv upload, the mv is beautiful, the choreo is cool. i wasn't crazy about the song on first listen before mv release, and tbf i'm always biased in the sense that i like sakurazaka the most when they remind me of keyaki, but this is such a nice version of their current sound that i really dig, and now i'm so into this track. idk if the mv influenced that or not but i'm so happy about this though. also, karin's silver hair is such an amazing look on her.

the cinematography is so stunning, and it all happening in ten's head during the alleged 8.2 seconds it takes to fall in love at first sight it just incredible... and this is juxtaposition with the song being about a love that is an addiction and obsession so fast is just such a fun mildly toxic yuri thing too. i'm so delighted by everything they chose to do with this.

Heeseung doesn’t care too much about the optics of their situation even though he knows it leads to talk, not just because of what it means to date a high schooler when you’re already in college yourself. He has taken any ribbing from his friends who know about him and Jungwon with ease, and few outsiders dare bring it up such unconfirmed rumours.

Two girls, perhaps a couple of Jungwon’s recent classmates who just like him are still in their uniforms, watch them from afar. Neither are bold enough to step close enough for Heeseung to hear what they’re saying to one another, but from how their gazes shift between them it’s easy enough to guess what the topic is. He thinks he might overhear the word ‘appa’ instead of ‘oppa’ —

and Jungwon’s eyes light up, glittering with amusement. He shifts the bouquet into one arm, and with his free hand he entangles his fingers with Heeseung’s. His fingers are so slender it rarely fails to make Heeseung feel clumsy, indelicate— worried for a second about being too much, too big, too rough. Jungwon’s grip is strong.

“Let’s get out of here, hyung,” Jungwon says, tugging lightly at their connected hands.

“Sunghoon-ah, live a little,” Jongseong says, the tone of his voice not quite mean but rather cheeky and his smile a lopsided, a glint of sharp little teeth. His smile turns softer when he looks at the hesitation holding Sunghoon’s frame stiff, his back ram-rod straight. “It’s okay if you don’t want to, you can say no.”

Jongseong doesn’t like goading Sunghoon into doing things he doesn’t want, but he’ll help him along when he deems it necessary. This might be one of the latter situations — and Sunghoon knows he isn’t Jongseong’s go-to partner for this, but he also knows that Jake is out trying to get his dick wet and most likely not even back at the hotel yet.

“I don’t know, I’ve never—” Sunghoon says. Never had any interest, and if anyone but Jongseong had asked he wouldn’t even have entertained the thought. He assumes that’s why he’s never been asked before.

“I know,” Jongseong says. “You don’t have to.”

“I’ve never smoked, like, at all,” Sunghoon says. Jongseong snorts.

“I said I know, didn’t I?” Jongseong punches his shoulder, fingers curled into a fist but the impact is so weak it barely registers. “I can teach you, make sure you don’t cough too badly. Probably.”

Sunghoon’s mouth says yes before his brain can compute exactly what’s happening and that’s how Sunghoon finds himself with a lapful of Jongseong, watching his fingers as he rolls the joint. He’s as neat and organised in how he goes about it as he ever gets, when he focuses his all on something, and that focus which also turns his little mouth pouty and sweet.

Jongseong fumbles with the lighter for a second, and Sunghoon reaches out to steady his hands, flicking it alive with his own thumb. Jongseong mumbles a thanks, and takes a drag. Holds it, and releases his breath into a hazy cloud in the dimness of his hotel room. He sighs happily, shifts his weight on Sunghoon’s thighs.

“Don’t freak out, just, remember to inhale,” Jongseong says next, lifting the joint again. The words do set Sunghoon on edge, but he decidedly does very much not freak out when Jongseong’s mouth falls to his; attempts to cover his lips, the connection a bit messy with spit, and then Jongseong’s blowing the smoke into Sunghoon’s just slightly parted mouth. Inhale, Sunghoon remembers.

(There is a thought forming as he watches the satisfied expression on Jongseong’s face, one he doesn’t want to materialise and have to consider, already recognising the jealous claws— all the other times Jongseong’s been up to this— how, no, why, did he—)

2024 recap (not fic)

this is maybe a little silly, but writing that other post made me want to make this little recap post not for fic too. so.

in 2024 i chopped off my waist length hair to my chin to donate it, and i'm enjoying the length a lot. it's very flattering tbh, and suddenly i have a much deeper understanding of why i think girl idols who suit this length a lot should keep it. even if i recognise they may have other preferences and are allowed to have those preferences. but some of us just look really good in this length. (ok kim gaeul everygirl of the universe w longhair but cool and striking w shorter.. i'm looking at you.)

and i'm still a bit crazy about perfumes. the collection has grown in regards to both full size bottles, decants, and samples. it's fun, i try to not spend too much. i'm no longer doing it even a tiny bit because it reminds me of a friend i'm not in contact with anymore, and just because i find it fun. (noting this for how long i felt nostalgic re perfume bc of this reason.)

also! i've started reading a few physical books again, alongside the literal millions of words of fanfic i read yearly! feel free to add me on storygraph if anyone wants to tbh. i have been getting through an assortment of my old unread books as well as allowing myself to add a few new books to my collection, since i've realised that while there are still plenty of books i already own that i'd like to read eventually.. i don't feel as strongly about them, and i need to have more books that excite the current me! so it's still a lot of litfic and classics and poetry lmao, just some other than the ones i already have.

long time no dw use (and one (1) rename token later)... i'm probs not really back to using it regularly, but i wanted to participate in girls fest 2025 (too lazy to link the community) and eventually/soonish(?) also maybe do one of these fic retrospective-ish posts, since 2024 saw me back to posting kpop fic - albeit not very much and also in a completely to me new fandom, as i got into enhypen late february/early march ish last year.. and i want to talk about the fic i wrote.

i’ve previously decided to not rate paper only samples in store when working on my bigger perfume sampling posts, especially from the limited time spent with them ie pm only getting the v first moments of the opening, but i also wanted to have a record of stuff i've tried in store (not all in one go) but not on skin? and i am a hater and don't mind first impression quick judgement so most of these are just yes/no/like/hate/love but sometimes w a short comment, and some of these were only to have a reference to what i see in others' reviews

the epic highs and lows of perfume sampling

this post has been in the works for a while now. back in august i made an attempt to find something else to enjoy n obsess over, and i sorta ended up on a fragrance kick? it was a side-effect of trying to find a perfume i wanted as my bday present and reading about fragrances and finding online retailers, and i ended up also buying a bunch of samples. this post includes those samples, plus fragrances/samples i already had (several a gift from a good friend), and some that i’ve tried through other means. notes listed are 99% taken from fragrantica.

i’m not a fragrance expert, i’m not going to pretend to be, these are just my opinions and in many cases first impression (tho i often did two wears of the scents to give them a chance), so my commentary/reviews might be quite disjointed from this. like i’d write down some notes for the opening/first hour, return later and add more info, and give a final verdict.

additional notes/disclaimers/context
1) i’m not really a gourmand girl and have never been, tho i can enjoy sweetness and can find gourmand notes fine or even enjoyable in a well blended scent
2) i love citrus notes. i really like oceanic, green, and woodsy notes. i like florals of most sorts in general
3) i’m on the hunt for more day-to-day scents, and also a perfume or two that are quote unquote appropriate for autumn/winter, so that has also coloured my reviews
4) i much prefer having to reapply a scent than smell like candy or vanilla for 12h, frags described as “beastmode” are not going to draw my attention unless the notes do
