a dream for a dream

so today was tenimyu dreamstream day so i did what one does and woke up 9am on a sunday (after falling asleep at around 4am) to watch tennis musical / catch most of the stream as it premiered! and i've still only watched it once in full so far but will def watch a couple more times before the streaming period ends! i've talked a little about it on twitter so this is rly just my extended thoughts on that.. all in all it was a fun experience and i don't regret deciding to get a ticket, even if i think it was a little overpriced for what it ended up being? (maybe i'm just greenscreen and cgi hater lol)
but i'm rly glad they managed to make something for 3rd season to graduate/end with properly even if it was.. a little anticlimactic and it kinda left me feeling that they all deserved more than this? i absolutely understand what a situation they were in though and all the restrictions and limitations the current pandemic has caused, so the lack of interactions n big stages were expected but still a little disappointing? the ensemble songs are one of my absolute fav parts though, especially with all the other fun combos we can get during dream lives
it was also kinda strange in a way bc i have no relation w this shitenhouji or seigaku gen, so im rly glad i watched higamyu in prep to at least be familiar w them aside from rikkai n hyotei? BUT i usually think dream lives can be a great experience even if u don't know the cast/teams very well, but i guess the lack of interax and lack of.. mood of a concert also affected it probably? (im glad there werent rly too many skit/talk parts tho) but as i mentioned earlier the constraints put on the filming due to rona kinda affected the feel too
3rd rikkai have such a great dynamic, that it's a bit of a shame to see them go ngl.. still not my fav akaya or niou even if neither are anywhere near bad - ive said it before but for kiri i just think he doesn't look/feel quite right, and niou's delivery of lines is generally a little bit off to how i see him, but the group dynamics are amazing so i can most def look past it!
3rd yukimura rly rose in the ranks / solidified as my second fav yuki after seeing his perf of yukimura no tennis (i'm waiting for the subs of the plotmyus), previously i would've ranked him about the same as season 2 yukimura or with a slight edge over him but nothing too big but i enjoyed him a lot more in this compared to kanto! but idt anyone else will ever be close to B yukimura's delivery and take on the character.. that said though, i think 3rd yuki here did a really good job at balancing sad prettyboy with evil? whereas massu just is absolutely perfect at gently smiling terrifying yukimura and imo has the best face of them all
as i said above it felt a little strange to watch 10th seigak when i have no particular affection/bond whatsoever with them, plus i missed the intro in the live premiere? because my opinion/mood was a lot better after seeing their rendition of 'do your best', as apparently that song is like a shot of serotonin straight into my brain.. i don't have too strong of an opinion on anything aside from the fact that i think that literallt every kaidou ever has a good/suitable face lmao
however, i did really like 10th tezuka! and his/ryomas pillar song perf (lmao i can never remember the name of it) was really nice *__* looking forward to watching season 3's sanada vs tezuka match whenever that gets subbed (thank u tenimyutopia users for being amazing and kind)
also i'm not the biggest fan of 9th/10th ryoma's line delivery in plotmyus since i think he plays the role too much like generic cocky/loud shonen protag, when imo ryoma really just.. isn't supposed to be that? but he is sooooooo adorable and cute that a lot is forgiven, and i liked him in a few of the perfs tho i wasn't blown away by him in.. that one song lol sry idr
other than that idk what to say really.. oh right! tiny ballet atobe forever fantastic lmao, i love miura's take on the role and how they utilise his talents even if i still think his face is incredibly.. not atobe lmao.. ALSO! it was actually kinda strange/trippy to watch 3rd hyoutei graduate today? because i just have such strong memories of them from when i was into tenipuri/tenimyu during my 2016 stint in the fandom, even if i never got to watch their myu properly at the time (unsubbed and maybe not available for download yet)..
shitenhouji were a lot of fun and i really quite enjoyed the small medley they did outdoors, they have such fun cheerful songs and lmao i'm sorry but i do think it's really sweet how they incorporate osamu-chan? (also quite fun to see s2 kenya play him) and this incarnation of shiraishi is so idol looking! like his design normally is but the face on this actor.. wow.. where are the idols aus lmao
THE 2882 + AKABUN MAGIC SHOW FOR THE PROFESSIONAL PETENSHI PERF... MWAH CHEF'S KISS. god professional petenshi is such a great song and the dynamic between the niou and yagyuu actors so amazing this season, i really really really like this yagyuu a lot (genuinely have trouble picking a fav between him an s1).. i also luv the akabun interactions n playing around / being magicians assistants lol, it was rly sweet
some final thoughts.. i think the stream felt kinda short, and i feel like some of the song/perf choices were made solely because it's inadvisable to bring too many ppl together at once or because of the length of time that filming has had to go on for, and coordinating all that can't have been easy? (it just feels a little strange to not have gotten a 'illusion' perf for a dream live, you know?) i don't really care to go into detail about the greenscreen backgrounds and effects but some were okay and a bunch where just.. absolutely ridiculous.. the gp one basically looked like they were in heaven, or the superimposed floating heads making "sexy" faces during 'ecstasy', or the rikkai in a volcano during a thunderstorm w bad cgi effects on sanada's scary expressions. like. it was a lot.
and with all this said. well. i had a lot of fun and the graduations were sweet, and it feels rather nice to have seen this season come to a close. i'm glad i got to witness it. thank you tenimyu for giving me so much joy this late summer and throughout the autumn, i hope to one day be able to see a show in person!
